Dry Erase Wall Paint

I was asked by a company to use and review some of Rust-Oleum's Dry Erase Paint. The issue for my was not where to put it, but having to cover my pinky-purple chalkboard wall first. (I will have a look for pictures later).

Off the Haymes paints I go, I tell the chap in store what it is I'm going t do and he mixes me up a can of 3-in-1 primer in grey. I didn't have the paint before I brought the primer so I thought as the sales guys was a paint expert he would know what I needed..... I was wrong. The box of the Rust-Oleum Dry Erase Paint says to cover any previously painted surfaces in a white latex primer (which I didn't read until this morning long after 3 coats of grey were on the walls and I was ready to paint the dry erase paint). Oh well, never mind.

5 coats of Rust-Oleum Dry Erase Paint later and I have to say after almost crying because I thought the wall wouldn't work it is looking fabulous.

My only advice to Rust-Oleum is to tell people to apply the paint in long stripes vertically as the first few coats I did in sections like you would normally paint the wall and I can see the overlaps through the additional coats. Other than that, my wall is looking fantastic. Even with the grey primer undercoat.

I LOVE IT.

(pictures later)

I am however still considering a 6th and final coat, and getting some timber to paint and use as a border around my new Rust-Oleum Dry Erase Paint wall.

Gluten free vegan apricot sultana rice flake cookies

Now isn't that title a mouthful??

I am currently in the middle of making a batch of the above very long titled cookies and had some concerns about using rice flakes for the mixture instead of the rolled oats that the recipe uses. When I taste the mix the rice flakes are very crunchy and I can't help wondering if maybe I should have soaked them first in something to soften them slightly. Hopefully they cook up well when the cookies are baked.

The reason I am making them is that I have a DUSA meeting today and have made some Cookies and Cream Truffles to take in with me and given that there is one person who is gluten free and one person who is a vegan, both of whom cannot eat the truffles I thought I would try some cookies for them.

First batch are just about ready, but due to the differences between gluten free and normal flour there is an overload of grease (I used dairy free margarine) in the cookie mix (it did feel very greasy when rolling them into balls), so what I am going to do with the second tray is add a little more gluten free flour and hope that they come out better.

(Hopefully the first tray tastes good).

Lamb Confusion

I went to IGA today to but Oreo's to make my second batch Oreo Surprise CupCakes. Not that there was anything wrong with the first batch, more that the first batch was so good that I had to make a second (and both batches made within a 3 day period). As I was saying I went to IGA, being a foodie I love looking at different produce to see what's in, what's on special and what looks good and I happened to look at the legs of lamb that they had in stock. Confusion entailed as there were three different prices on display. Two were on specials sheets and the other was on the price sticker on the lamb itself. Have a look at the picture

as you can see there are two different specials prices, yet the sticker price (which you may not be able to see in this picture) says $7.99 per kilo.

Well that is one way to split the difference.

Okay, so I know that there are like 40 million cooking websites/blogs out there in cyber-space, but I think that the world needs a little bit of my flair added to it.

(Not full of it at all am I??)

So this blog will be all about my cooking adventures in and out of the kitchen as well as my other advertures in life.
I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to leave comments.
